Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Steiner, the executive chef of Cap City Grandview, grew up watching his mother in the kitchen. He was inspired by the way she infused her emotions and passion into her food, which caused him to pursue a culinary career.

Steiner has worked in the culinary industry for 11 years, starting at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club as a pantry cook as he studied the culinary arts at the Delaware Area Career Center. He moved to Pennsylvania to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and receive his bachelor’s degree in culinary management. After graduation, he helped open Senti Restaurant and Bar in Pittsburgh.

In 2015, Steiner returned to his hometown to advance his career with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) and began as a line cook at The Guild House. One year later, he was promoted to sous chef at Cap City Grandview, and within a few years, advanced to his current role as executive chef.

He has two daughters and a fiancée that help drive his motivation to work hard and be better for them every day. “I’m very excited for this opportunity and to see what the future holds,” said Steiner. Cooking is his passion but his family is his life.

When training sous chefs, he emphasizes the saying “calm is smooth, smooth is fast” to help them slow down and focus to ensure the quality of the dishes they serve guests.
